The LinkedIn Learning Canvas integration allows instructors to assign LinkedIn Learning content as Canvas Assignments.

It is also possible to link to LinkedIn Learning content from the Rich Content Editor to share with students; however, this method does not provide credit for completion.

This page is intended for instructors. Students will only be able to access LinkedIn Learning content within a Canvas course if their instructor has enabled it.

The LinkedIn Learning integration cannot be paired with Canvas Quizzes. Please use a Canvas Assignment if you wish to track or grade completion of content.

Accessing LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is available to all active students, instructors, temporary and permanent staff, and unpaid affiliates with a valid PennKey.

You must log into LinkedIn Learning with your PennKey credentials by following the steps in ISC’s LinkedIn Learning FAQ in order to use the Canvas integration successfully.

Creating an Assignment

It is only possible to create a Canvas Assignment for a LinkedIn course or an individual video. At present, it is not possible to group multiple videos together in the same Assignment.

To create an Assignment that will grant full credit for watching LinkedIn Learning video content:

  1. Go to Assignments, then click the +Assignment button.
  2. Change the Submission Type option to External Tool
  3. Click Find, then select LinkedIn Learning to launch the LinkedIn Learning pop-up.
  4. Search for the content you want to include. Click Select to add content.
  5. When finished, scroll down and click Confirm.
  6. In the Configure External Tool window, click Select.
  7. Check the box to Load This Tool In A New Tab.
  8. If you do not input your own assignment name or text, LinkedIn will populate its own.
  9. Set the assignment points to your desired value. By default, assignments are worth 100 points.
  10. Click Save & Publish to complete.

This type of assignment will result in a completion-only grade. Students will receive full credit in the Canvas Gradebook for playing the video(s).

We recommend using the Google Chrome browser on a desktop or laptop computer to assign or view LinkedIn Learning content on Canvas.

If you are using the Firefox browser, you may need to adjust the following settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Enhanced Tracking Protection and select Standard.

On a mobile device, you may use the Canvas Teacher App or Canvas Student App.

There are known issues for iPhone/iPad users with the LinkedIn Learning app installed when attempting to access via the Safari mobile browser. Use open in background as a workaround.
