Gradescope is an external tool that syncs with Canvas, expanding its features by allowing your instructors to create and grade a large set of assignment and exam types.

Accessing Gradescope
From a Canvas course site
To access Gradescope from a Canvas course site:
- Log in to Canvas.
- Click Courses and choose a course.
- Once in the course, click Gradescope in the left side course navigation menu.
If your course has a Canvas site, be sure to always access Gradescope through the Canvas course menu to avoid grade sync issues.
Outside of Canvas
Gradescope is available for all courses at Penn, even those not using Canvas. If your course does not use Canvas but still uses Gradescope, sign up and log in directly to Gradescope. Your instructor will provide detailed directions.
Submitting Assignments & Exams

Submission types
The type of assignment your instructor has chosen will determine how you submit work to Gradescope. You can find detailed instructions for submitting common Gradescope assignments below:

Viewing Grades & Feedback
Once grading is complete, you can view your grades and feedback in Gradescope, including total assignment grade, rubric item scores, and any comments your instructor provided. If your course has a Canvas site, you may see your assignment or exam grade in the Canvas gradebook.
Request a regrade
Your instructor may choose to allow students to ask for a review of the score received on assignment or exam questions using the regrade request feature.
Refer to your course syllabus for regrade request policies. The policies and time limits for request, review, and score updates are up to the individual instructor.
Grades must be synced manually between Gradescope and the Canvas gradebook. If a regrade request is approved, there may be a delay before your score is updated in Canvas.
