Recent changes in Canvas

Canvas lives and updates in the cloud, which means some changes to how the system updates. The plus side? No more long downtime periods. New features and fixes are quietly added every three weeks, and while these usually are not noticeable, the most recent updates brought some more significant changes.

Groups redesign

The Groups pages have been redesigned to more closely resemble other features in Canvas.

Grade by question

Grading manually graded quiz questions (essay, short-answer, and file-upload questions) for all students just got easier. You can now use the SpeedGrader to grade one question at a time, perfect for lateral graders and quizzes with only a few manually grading questions throughout. Instructure has outlined the process in its documentation.

Quiz Settings

This page also has been redesigned with few changes to functionality. One change is date restrictions when allowing students to see their quiz responses and correct answers.

Other Changes

  • The Calendar now includes an Agenda View, which lists all calendar items within a range of dates. The amount of contrast between different courses also has been increased.
  • Subscript/superscript have moved to the main text editor.
